FOTO FORUM Camera Video, Foto Forum AZ Posted on June 25, 2016 by JeffJuly 5, 2016

Part 1 of this series explains how the focal length of lenses control depth of field and background perspective. How does this apply to the photographs you want to create?  Once you master controlling your depth of field you will be able to control what is in focus; you can purposely throw your background out of focus so only your subject(s) are in focus or you can choose to have your background in focus to include it in your portrait to compliment your subject(s).   A portrait, by definition, is a portrayal; to depict, written or visually an image or group of images … Continue reading →

Lenses – Understanding How They Work – Part I

FOTO FORUM Camera Video, Foto Forum AZ

As technology continues to advance DSLR camera bodies have a shorter useful life as, on average, most photo enthusiast and professionals upgrade their camera bodies every two years. Lenses on the other hand, if properly maintained, having a lifespan approximately 20 years, have more longevity. How does this translates to you the consumer? As long as you maintain your loyalty to a specific camera brand your lenses can be used with all compatible camera bodies. Your optics are ultimately most important, the better quality the lens, the better quality your images. With this in mind, it would be wise for you to invest in the best … Continue reading →

FOTO FORUM Camera Video, Foto Forum AZ Posted on March 6, 2016 by JeffMarch 7, 2016

If you are a fan of Canon, mark your calendar for Saturday March 12th because you are going to love the newest member of their EOS line, which will be available for purchase at Larmon Photo. Introducing the Canon EOS 80D. The powerful DSLR boasts a resolution of 24.2 effective megapixels. To say the EOS 80D is innovative would be an understatement.  The 80D has modestly impressive speed, instinctive controls, and my favorite feature is Wi-Fi. A responsive camera with a 45 point all cross-type Auto Focus and able to capture video at 7fps. Canon’s 80D was designed with the photographer in mind; it … Continue reading →

Shoot Sharp Video and Stills with Your Smartphone

FOTO FORUM Camera Video, Foto Forum AZ Posted on August 30, 2015 by JeffSeptember 22, 2015

If there’s one technique that video experts recommend when shooting video using a smartphone, it’s to shoot video horizontally. Image orientation is particularly important when uploading to YouTube, Vimeo, Vine, SnapChat and other video sites, and if you shoot vertically, your video will contain those black bars on the side that are distracting for viewers. However, if you make this mistake don’t freak out, there is a free app that you can download that will rotate your video orientation to remove the ugly black bars.  The next biggest issue most smartphone users have when taking stills and especially video is camera shake or vibrations. To … Continue reading →

Our KEH Buying Event is coming up July 16th through 19th, and this time the process will be a little different than in past events, but the same as it was in April. There are no appointments for this event. Instead, you will simply bring your camera gear to Foto Forum, leave it with us, and we will provide you with a claim ticket after collecting your name, phone number, and email address. Once KEH has reviewed your gear, we will call you with their offer. You will then have three options: Accept the cash offer, accept Foto Forum store credit plus 10%, or decline the offer and pick up your gearA few important notes: This is not a same-day, wait-in-the-lobby type of event. Please do not plan to stay while your gear is being evaluated. Drop it off, receive your claim ticket, and we will contact you once the review is complete. Also, we will not be itemizing or inventorying individual gear at drop-off. If you would like a personal record of what you brought in, we strongly encourage you to document your gear before leaving it with us.Gear drop-off begins Wednesday, July 15th, at 9:00 AM, and we will stop accepting gear on Saturday, July 18th, at 3:00 PM sharp. Alright, my friends, if you’ve been waiting for a new wide-angle workhorse in that “16–35-ish” lane, Tamron rolled up with a big grin: the Tamron 16–30mm f/2.8 Di III VXD G2 😎📸This is the kind of lens that makes you want to walk outside, point it at literally anything, and whisper, “cinematic” like a weirdo. 😂🎬A few highlights (without turning this into a tax document):* Constant f/2.8 because low-light and drama are non-negotiable 🌙✨* Ridiculously light for what it is: 440g (Sony E) / 450g (Nikon Z) 💪* Close focus down to 0.19m (7.5”) at the wide end—hello exaggerated perspective and “why does this look so cool?” shots 😮‍💨* 67mm filters (your wallet just sighed with relief) 😅* Internal zoom + fast VXD autofocus + Tamron Lens Utility support for creator-friendly tweaks 🎥And the value? It starts around $929, which is exactly why Tamron keeps living rent-free in people’s gear bags. 💸🔥My friends, don’t forget to have a fantastically blessed day wherever you are, whatever you’re doing, and never stop being amazing.Remember: Keep on creating. Because the images you capture today can definitely change the world tomorrow!Remember: Be kind to yourself and others.Be amazing stewards on the trail. And we have to ask, What are you waiting for? Friendly reminder, my friends: Foto Forum will be closed Saturday, July 4, in observance of Independence Day and the 250th anniversary of the United States of America. 🇺🇸📸We will be open during normal business hours on Friday, July 3, and we will reopen for normal business hours on Monday, July 6.A little history nugget for the day: the Fourth of July celebrates the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776. Fun fact, despite what many of us were taught in school, most of the signing actually happened later. History likes to keep things spicy. So if you need film, memory cards, batteries, chargers, cleaning supplies, or any “oh no, I forgot that thing” gear before the holiday weekend, stop in and see us ahead of time. If you have questions, feel free to contact the shop by phone or through social media.Have a safe, joyful, and meaningful Fourth of July weekend, my friends. My friends, don’t forget to have a fantastically blessed day wherever you are, whatever you’re doing, and never stop being amazing.Remember: Keep on creating.
